James Craig Babcock's Obituary
Memorial service at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E Highland Ave. San Bernardino, CA, 92404 on Saturday, December 13th at 11:00 am. Reception and visitation following the service.
Jim was born on May 16th, 1953, in Sioux City, Iowa. The son of Richard and Grace (Pratt) Babcock. He was raised in the Moville Iowa area. At age 9, Jim became a paper boy, and his work ethic has been strong ever since. That job won him a trip to Europe when he was 13.
After graduating high school, he began working as an orderly. Then moved on to college where he became a PA at the University of Nebraska and achieved his Doctorate in the Dominican Republic. That medical passion continued his entire life until retiring October 31st, 2019.
Jim married in 1971 and divorced in 1987, had 3 children. Jim married Helen in 1989, and 3 more children were born into the family.
In 1991, Jim had an interview with Kaiser Permanent. A month after that interview, Jim and Helen moved to California. Jim worked in Family Medicine in Claremont & Rancho Cucamonga. In 2006 Jim joined the Urology Dept. in Fontana until his retirement. His work ethic was exceptional, and he was always ready to help any of his coworkers. With his strong dedication to his work, he hardly ever missed a day, even with his severe Asthma. Jim did many, many, many miles which included 10 marathons, over 250 half marathons, countless 5K events, and walked daily regardless of the weather.
Jim had many passions. When he moved to CA he found out about MCCA (Mexican Christian Children’s Aid). A group that went to Mexico once a month to deliver food to Christian Orphanages. His faithfulness to this group continued for 34 years. College football was a highlight to him. After attending the University of Nebraska, Jim was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan. Jim and Helen loved to watch on TV and attended many bowl games even if Nebraska was not playing.
Survivors include his wife Helen of 36 years; Children: Megan (Jason) Alexander, Michelle (Edward) Harris, Josie Babcock, Harry Babcock, and Jacob (Dakodah) Babcock Grandchildren: Kelli Vasquez, Alyssa Babcock, Rebecca Babcock, Miranda Alexander, Zienna Long, Malaya Harris, and Logan Babcock
Sister: Kathleen Anderson, brother-in-law (Roger) (Colorado Springs), Brother: Kevin Babcock (Iowa), Brother and sister-in-law Darold & Becky Boersma, sister-in-law Shirley Fernstrum (Iowa), Brother and sister-in-law Don & Flori Boersma (Iowa). As well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his son Heath Babcock, parents Richard & Grace Babcock, Helen’s parents Harry & Marie Boersma, Helen’s brother and sister-in-law LeRoy & Florence Boersma.
The family is thankful for the prayers and love during this difficult time.
