JACK DOUGLAS JOLEY's Obituary
Jack Douglas Joley, Lt. Col. (Ret), 88, a resident of Highland, passed away July 6, 2008 at his home.
Born august 7, 1919 in rural Michigan to Jesse and Luella Joey, he entered the Army Air Corps with younger brother Robert, prior to Pearl Harbor. He was assigned as a crew-chief on B-17’s awaiting cadet flight training. Jack completed two, 25 mission tours, back to back, in 1944 in North Africa and Italy as a P-38 pilot. Returning home with a heroic war record, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and air medals with 5 oak leaf clusters.
Jack married Dortha Fisher in 1946 and toured the world until retiring, as a command pilot, to San Bernardino in 1965.
Jack’s second career, as a payroll supervisor for San Bernardino County, lasted fourteen years. He retired in 1979 to devote more time to family and flying.
He is loved by many friends and his wife of 62 years, Dortha; his son, Craig and daughter-in-law, Christine; a granddaughter, Jennie and family; a grandson, Eric and family; and great-grandchildren Ivan and Olivia.
Jack took pride in his membership and service in Masonic Lodge F & AM #178, Al Malikah Shrine, Daedalians, National P-38 Association, Orange Empire Retired Officers Association and the Redlands Aero Club.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held Friday, 12:15 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery, staging area #2, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, CA.
