Mrs Ivry L. Baker's Obituary
Mrs. Ivry Lee Baker, long time resident of San Bernardino, passed away Monday, December 1, 2014. Mrs Baker was a resident of San Bernardino for 69 years.
She was born, September 30, 1919, in Ponca City, Oklahoma where she attended school and was a star athlete on the woman’s Basketball Team at Attucks High School. Mrs. Baker moved to California in 1943 where she worked in the defense industry making parts for air craft. She moved to San Bernardino in 1945 where she met her future husband Robert Lewis Baker at White Rose Church of God in Christ where her uncle, Lee Carter was the pastor. Mrs. Baker married Robert Baker and that union produced three children.
Ivry Baker participated in neighborhood efforts to improve her community. She encouraged people to register and vote in local, city, and national elections. She was active in PTA, open house and parent conference nights at each school her children attended. Mrs. Baker enjoyed social functions such as bingo and bowling. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War for more than twenty years. She also loved to sing and read. In fact, at one time, she wanted to become an opera singer. Mrs. Baker made countless friends over the years. She was giving, generous, classy, a strong ally to those in times of trouble, and always willing to help those in need.
Ivry Baker is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert Baker, Sr.; son Robert Jr.; daughters, M Joyce and Wanda; son-in-law Vernon; grandchildren, Christina and Shawn; daughter-in-law, Jennifer; great grandchildren: Stephen, David, Alicia, Aaliyah, Rahsan, and a host of friends and acquaintances. Viewing, funeral service and graveside service for Ivry Baker will take place Wednesday, December 17, 2014.
