Henrietta C. Eich's Obituary
Henrietta C. (Hank) Eich passed away on May 3rd, 2011. She was born in Polk County, MO on March 31, 1922 to Charles F. Chamberlin and Jessie Lou Kirkpatrick Chamberlin. She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister Anita Kennedy, a brother Charles and her daughter Nancy Ann Eich. She was a lifelong resident of San Bernardino. She attended San Bernardino Schools from kindergarten through Valley College.
She married her high school sweetheart Wilbur J. Eich on May 2, 1942. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps as an aviator cadet and left for training following their marriage. During WWII she was employed as a personnel auditor for the Army Air Corps and traveled western bases while her husband was in the military.
Following WWII she and her husband moved to Pullman WA. While he was in pre-dental school, she worked as the executive secretary of the head of the Geology department. Their first child Stephen was born in Pullman.
In 1947 her husband moved to San Francisco to attend dental school. During this period she was employed by the University of Ca in the department of Dental Medicine. During this time they had another son William. While at the UC she served as the director of two research projects.
In 1951 she and her family moved to Yuma, AZ where her husband served as a base dental surgeon until 1953. Their third son Gregory was born during that time.
The family moved home to San Bernardino in 1953 and later had two daughters, Nancy Ann and Mary Catherine.
Hank loved her city and became involved in many civic activities. She was a founding member of the ladies axillaries at St. Bernardine’s Hospital and the Assistance League. She also worked to raise funds for Holy Rosary School, Aquinas High School, and University of San Diego. She was a loving Mother, a people person and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral, 2525 N. Arrowhead Avenue, San Bernardino. Inurnment will be private. Condolences may be sent on-line at www.bobbittchapel.com.
