Helen Wear's Obituary
Helen Maxine Hanson Wear along with her twin brother Harold Max Hanson were born on August 22, 1920 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Edward Siefert Hanson and Katie Jane Nowlin Hanson. Raised on a farm in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Helen graduated from Ammon High School. She then attended L.D.S. Business College in Salt Lake City and employed by Fort Douglas Air Force Base in the war plant as a secretary.
Helen married 1st Lt. Harold Eugene Wear on February 6, 1944 in Colorado Springs, Colorado., prior to Lt. Wear’s deployment to England with the 8th Service Command stationed at Salt Lake.
Helen’s military moves took her to San Angelo, Texas prior to Mr. Wear’s discharge from the Air Force in 1945. Their travels included a move to Colton, California and then to the city of San Bernardino in 1950, where the couple raised their three children, Pamela, Dennis, and David.
Helen worked and retired from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department after 15 years of service as a secretary with the department.
Helen was very active in the San Bernardino Community. She was active in Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub and Boy Scouts. In PTA, she was a member of Lincoln Elementary School and where she was President and received Honorary Life Membership. She was President of the PTA at Arrowview Junior High and played an active role in the PTA at Pacific High School.
Helen received Woman of the Year in 1978 from the American Business Women and Life Membership from the San Bernardino Women’s Club.
Helen was a member of the Arrowhead Garden Club and held many offices. She loved her rose garden and was gifted with a green thumb to grow spectacular roses. She prided herself in showing her roses in the Annual Garden Club’s Flower Show, where she won many awards.
Helen is survived by her daughter Pamela Kay Price, son David Wear (Lynn), and son Dennis Wear; 4 Grandchildren; and 12 Great-Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Harold Wear and Grandson James David Price.
