HAROLD FRANCIS SANDERS's Obituary
Harold F. Sanders, a resident of Highland, CA since 1967 died August 20, 2009 at age 78.
He was born Oct. 19, 1930 to Harold Glen and Katherine Lienemann Sanders in Beatrice, NE. Baptism was at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beatrice on Nov. 11, 1930 and Harold has remained in the Lutheran faith all of his life. Membership has been with The Lutheran Church of Our Savior since 1967.
Harold attended the Nebraska public schools and later received Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from California State University and Chapman College.
Harold’s occupations were serving his country for twenty years in the Air Force retiring honorably in 1967 and being both a Juvenile and Adult Probation Officer for the San Bernardino County Probation Dept. for twenty three years retiring in 1994.
He was a member of The Sons of the American Revolution having documented his lineage to Zachariah Sanders, born 1759 in Virginia, who served in the Virginia Militia in The Revolutionary War. Other memberships were in the U.S. Golf Assoc. and several local golf clubs and several historical societies.
He was preceded in death by his oldest son James Francis Sanders in 2006.
Survivors are his wife of fifty nine years, Mary Ellen, daughter, Shannon Sanders Vargas and son Gary S. Sanders. Grandchildren: Brett, Stacey, Courtney, Luke and Victoria Vargas and Hunter and Caelan Sanders.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 pm, Tues, Aug. 25, 2009 at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Avenue, San Bernardino, CA ,with funeral services 10:00 am, Wed. at The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 5050 N. Sierra way, San Bernardino, CA. Interment will be at 1:45 pm at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA, Staging Area #4. Pastor “Woody” Hall will officiate.
