Gladys - Tevis' Obituary
Gladys McWashington Tevis was born in Montgomery, Texas on October 9, 1932. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tiney Tevis, Jr., her father, Ammon McWashington, Sr., her mother, Hattie Parker McWashington, her brother Bennie McWashington, Sr. and long time companion, Harold Jackson.
Gladys graduated from Booker T. Washington High School (Conroe, TX)). In 1950, she married her high school sweetheart, Tiney Tevis, Jr. and moved to San Bernardino, CA. While residing in San Bernardino, Gladys attended the San Bernardino College of Cosmetology. In 1954, she began her lifetime career as a professional hairstylist.
Gladys enjoyed traveling and bowling. She was an avid sports fan and was known for her enthusiastic support of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Gladys loved and doted on her family. She is survived by:
Sister: Louise McWashington Glenn (Leroy L. Glenn), Choctaw, OK
Brother: Ammon McWashington, Jr., (Carol A. Coram), Seattle, WA
Sister-in-law: Lurlean McWashington, Conroe, TX
Aunt: Carrie Parker Roberts, Conroe, TX
Nieces and nephews: Bennie McWashington, Jr., Lisa McWashington, Cesily McWashington Crowser, Ammon Shawn McWashington.
Godchild: Gia Elaine Darby
and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel 1299 E Highland Ave., San Bernardino from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Chapel services, also at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel will be held on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 1:30 PM with interment to follow at Montecito Cemetery in Colton.
