Dear family,
Uncle Gil was a very important part of my life. I will miss him deeply. It was my honor to be able to help out these last few days. My mother was very blessed with some awesome brothers they were all there for her when she needed them the most. This was my way of saying thank you to Uncle Gil.
I learned a lot with the passing of Uncle Gil, What are the Jaycee's a lot of people have asked; they were a group that ran out of the San Bernardino Chamber back in the day. In fact Stephen, Dan and I found a picture of a young lady having a seat belt placed across her lap. Uncle Henry gave us a lesson on SB history. She was the first person to get a seat belt when the seat belt law passed here in SB. Our Uncle Gil was a big part of that drive. Uncle Gil loved his class mates very much; in fact he also had a copy of the school almamater his official class list and graduation announcement on his table.
I was five when our Uncle Tom died his passing changed our family just bit. In fact I believe this why my mother was brave enough to take herself out a troubled marriage and start a new life. The help she received from her brothers made this possible.
We don't get to pick our family we are just born to our parents and the family that comes with them. How lucky my brother and sisters and I were. We hit the jack pot Great Grandparents and some of the best Aunts and Uncles we could ever wish for.
Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter were big events. Great food lots of laughter and we all learned to take pictures lots of pictures.
Fashion was a big deal to Uncle Gil he was always dressed to the nines his shoes matched his pants. His hair was never messy I mean never. It was always perfect. His cars were also special and unique colors like his light purple T Bird. We became close and a lot of the people he knew I knew. We would laugh when we would attend a party and find each other there. He loved to dance we could dance all night together. His laugh was a joy to hear.
He worked hard and read the paper every day. He would joke and say he wanted to see if would be busy that day or not. He loved his customers and they loved him. He was a walking history book when it came to San Bernardino or Colton.
He made sure that when we became of age that we registered to vote. Then he would ask did you go vote. He loved san Bernardino and he taught me to love it too.
Thank you Uncle Gil for being here for my brother you two were very close. You made sure that we were all doing well even after we all grew up. sisters and brothers don't always get along but there is no question on how much my mother and my uncles loved each other.
In my faith we say my your memory be internal. I pray that you are at rest and sitting with my mother looking down on all of us with a smile.
I love you Uncle Gil and to my cousins if you need any thing else I am just a phone call away. I love you all very much I have the best cousins in the world.
