George S. Theios' Obituary
George S. Theios, born June 25, 1948, in San Francisco, CA, died peacefully on January 14, 2023, at the age of 74. He was a lifelong resident of San Bernardino and practiced law in the Inland Empire for more than 42 years. George graduated from SB High School (class of ’66), earned his bachelor’s from UCSD, and his law degree from Western State University. He was a deeply giving and humble man. Active in his community and Our Lady of the Rosary parish, George was a prominent board member, volunteer, and supporter of many organizations with never-ending generosity. He served as President of Legal-Aid Society of SB, of Inland County Legal Services, and of AHEPA 302 Senior Living apartments where he played an instrumental role in the construction and operation. He received countless community and professional awards honoring his contributions as a “community hero” and “pro bono provider”.
As the son of Greek and Austrian immigrants, he grew up in his parents coffee shop on 3rd St. and loved feeding a houseful of friends and family. He found passion volunteering as a cook at Mary’s Table serving the homeless and took particular pride in preparing Thanksgiving feasts. It’s estimated he cooked more than 200 turkeys over the last decade.
George was a proud, dedicated father and grandfather who never missed a game or practice. His happiest days were spent on the pool deck at Arrowhead Country Club or the sidelines of a field, at backyard barbeques with friends, and on the dance floor with his wife alongside a great band.
He is survived by his wife, Debbi Sparkman of San Bernardino; his son Nick and daughter-in-law Katherine Theios of San Diego; his daughter Julia and son-in-law PJ Connell of Carlsbad; five granddaughters - Sloan, Reese, Grace, Paige & Elyse; siblings Rosemary Ottoson of Fremont, CA, Eugene Theios of Boise, ID, and Joyce Theios of Sutter Creek, CA; and countless cousins, nieces & nephews. George is preceded in death by his parents, Peter & Mary Theios, and siblings Annette Evans, John Theios, and Alex Theios.
George’s life will be honored with a memorial mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral (2525 N. Arrowhead Ave, SB) on February 9 at 4pm and a Celebration of Life at the National Orange Show Renaissance Room (689 S. “E” St – entrance gate 9 off Arrowhead) on February 10 at 11:30am.
