George Harold Schnarre's Obituary
George Harold Schnarre
Passed away and entered into heaven to be with the Lord on October 16, 2012 in San Bernardino California at the age of 80. Born in Missouri, he moved to California at a young age. Graduating
from San Bernardino High school in 1950, he went on to Valley College with the thoughts of becoming a dentist. Uncle Sam interrupted his studies, and he became a dental technician in the Navy during the Korean War. Upon being discharged from the Service he attended the University of California at Riverside while working part time in the grocery business. He then went to work for Sage's Complete Markets. He soon became a Market Director for Mayfair Markets in Westchester, Beverly Hills area. After a few years he earned his first real estate license and decided on February 23, 1964 to go into the real estate field full time. He went to work with Russ Christianson Realtor. While working with Russ he became a Real Estate Broker, as well as being a teacher at Valley College. At Valley College he obtained lifetime credentials to teach any real estate subject at the Community College level. He was a member of the Argonaut Club and a Rotarian, which he is still a member of San Bernardino North Rotary. He is a Mason and a Shriner, a member of Immanuel Baptist church, and a member of the San Bernardino Elks.
In 1969 he opened George H. Schnarre Inc. Real Estate. He increased the size of his firm to 13 offices, including an escrow company, mortgage company, investment company, and a construction division. While running these entities George made sure there was time to serve his industry at local, state, and national levels. He was very committed to doing his part to see that the real estate industry moved to the future in an ethical manner. He holds the designations as a Graduate of the Realtor Institute (GRI) as well as being a Certified Real Estate Broker (CRB).
His commitment was just as strong in his community having served as a Director of the San Bernardino Chamber of Commerce and was a member of 4 other local Chambers. He has served on boards of more than 20 organizations in the Inland Empire and still served on the Public Safety Authority, Flood Control Zone 2, St. Bernardine’s Hospital Board and was a past member of the Inland Empire Symphony Board. He is a past president of the local YMCA, Rotary North, and Board of Realtors. He has been honored twice as Citizen of the Year, Realtor of the Year; and enjoys Honorary Director for Life for the California Association of Realtors. He has served on some 62 committees since 1964 relating to real estate at the state and national levels. These are a few of his activities.
George and his best friend, Ray Adams, in late 1988 opened and owned Buyers Home Warranty Company, Inc. which was the fourth largest company of its kind in California out of eleven licensed in this state.
In 1996 George decided to “semi-retire”. He moved his private office around the corner of his building next to his favorite tenant and hair stylist, Rick Gonzalez. Along with working harder, he felt it was time to recommit to the Inland Empire and give back to a community that for many years has served him so well. If you ask him what his philosophy on success is he will always answer; "As I learned from my mother, love many - trust few - always paddle your own canoe!".
George is survived by his wife, Claudia, Children Cynthia McGilloway (Dan), George W. Schnarre(Melinda), Keith Goettelmann (Shelly), Christine Adams (Jim), Todd Goettelmann. Grandchildren David Jones(Amy), Cassidy and Madison Helton, Kyle, Kaelene, and Sheridan Goettelmann, Abigail and Jacob Goettelmann. Two Great Grandchildren Roxanne and Sabrina Jones.
