Geneva Catherine Woods' Obituary
Geneva Brodbeck Woods was born in Bippus, Indiana in 1918. The first and only member of her family to attend college, she graduated from Manchester College in Indiana. She taught English in the Republic of the Congo for five years, before returning to the US to complete her MA in Economics at American University, in Washington, DC. While in Washington she met and married her husband of fifty three years, Dr. Donald Woods. After living a year in the Philippines they moved to San Bernardino where she taught English at Rim of the World High School in Lake Arrowhead while he worked in the Counseling Department of California State University, San Bernardino.
Geneva was an active member of numerous civic organizations: a charter member of the San Bernardino Symphony Guild; and a member of the PEO Chapter PE, the League of Women Voters, the San Gorgonio Branch of the AAUW, the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, the National Audubon Society, the Sierra Club and Planned Parenthood.
Living independently and driving until shortly before her 95th birthday, she was a force of nature. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Woods Dickson and son-in-law Del Dickson of San Diego.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to Heifer International or the San Bernardino Public Library.
Services were private.
