Mr Frederick Joseph Hanrahan's Obituary
Fred Hanrahan, 74, passed away on the morning of December 19th, 2015. He was born in Shelby, Ohio. As a teenager, he attended Marmion Military Academy in Aurora, IL for 3 years before moving to San Bernardino, where as a senior, he became part of Aquinas’s first graduating class of 1959. About the time he thought of pursuing a career in the Air Force as a pilot he met Kathy Larrowe and decided he wasn’t letting her get away. According to Kathy, he had to have a good sense of humor and be able to dance. This past July 27th they celebrated 52 of marriage.
In 1965 Fred went to work for State Farm Insurance as an agent; after 49 years of service with the company he found it fun to let people know that he “was just trying it out.” Fred was a past Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed his career with State Farm but he was best known for his love of the stage! Fred performed a one-man act play “Goldminer Vincent” at the Table Mountain Campground in Wrightwood every Labor Day weekend for 28 years. Adults who were children when they first saw “Gold Miner Vincent” have returned with their children to share the experience of the gold miner's story, set against a crackling campfire. Since moving to Sun Lakes in 2009, Fred was involved in the Drama Club, Mystery Theatre, Reader’s Theatre, That’s Entertainment, and the Sun Lakes Follies. Fred’s favorite saying was “If I made you laugh I’ve done my job.” His humor and dedication will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Kathy, son Kevin, daughter Kimberly Bockman, sister Cindy Evans, and brother Mike Hanrahan along with 3 granddaughters Ashley & Aimey Bockman and Madison Hanrahan. A memorial celebration of Fred’s life was held at Sun Lakes Country Club in Banning, CA on January 30, 2016.
