Francis Allan (Mick) League 's Obituary
Francis Allan (Mick) League was born March 6, 1932, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, the 6th of 8 children, to Edgar and Rose (Mellon) League. He attended Holy Spirit Grammar and High School where he was an all-around athlete playing football basketball and running track. During his sophomore year he met 15-year-old Ella Leichsenring, his future wife.
In 1952, Mick enlisted in the United States Air Force and completed basic training at Samson AFB (Romulus), New York, and Aircraft Maintenance training at Amarillo AFB, Texas, before assignment to Forbes AFB (Topeka), Kansas, (Topeka), Kansas, in 1954. Thus, began a career including assignments to Africa, Montana, South Dakota, Arkansas, Germany and finally, Norton AFB, California. He retired a Chief Master Sergeant in 1978 after 26 years of service to our nation.
After military retirement, Mick supported Norton's 63rd Aerial Port Squadron until its closure in 1994 and continued to support Norton AFB during the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) activities in the 1990s. He retired from his 2nd career in 1998.
Mick was an avid golfer and accomplished woodworker. He donated many of his creations to the San Manuel Indians, Highland Fire Department, various restaurants and golf courses.
Mick is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ella his children Tom (Lisa), Patty and Susie; grandchildren Nikki, Patrick, Michael, and James; 6 Great-Grandchildren; 6 Great-Great-Grandchildren; and brother Pete League.
Visitation will be at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel in San Bernardino, Tuesday, 25 September, from 5-7pm. Funeral Mass will be at St. Adelaide Catholic Church in Highland, Wednesday, 26 September, at 10:30am, followed by burial at Riverside Veteran's National Cemetery at 12:45.
