EVELYN MARIE CALDWELL's Obituary
Evelyn M. Caldwell, 89, a resident of San Bernardino, CA for 50 years, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2006. She was born in Santa Ana, CA, December 2, 1916, and attended Riverside Junior College and the University of California Berkley. She graduated from University of California Santa Barbara in 1938, and began her kindergarten teaching career in Santa Ana, CA. She married Stuart Caldwell in 1940 and taught in the Lemon Grove School District in San Diego while raising 3 daughters and being active in PTA as well as a Bluebird and Campfire leader and Sunday School teacher. In 1956, the family moved to San Bernardino and Evelyn began what would ultimately be 25 years of teaching Kindergarten, first at the old Cajon School in Devore, and then at Ramona Alessandro School in San Bernardino. She continued to remain active in the community following her retirement. She was a member and past president of the San Bernardino Community Hospital Auxiliary, a member and past president of chapter GH PEO, a member, an elder, and Sunday School teacher at First Presbyterian in San Bernardino, and a member of the California Retired Teachers’ Association. She was preceded in death in 1996 by her husband, Stuart D. Caldwell. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Gene Neue of Aloha, OR; Joanne and Jurg Heuberger of El Centro CA; Trish Caldwell and Don D’ Onofrio of Sacramento, CA; grandchildren, Mike and Karyn Neue of Irvine, CA, Scott and Cherlynne Neue of Spokane, WA, Nick Yeager of El Centro, CA, Andrew D’Onofrio of Japan, and great grandson, Max Neue of Irvine, CA. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of San Bernardino, 1900 North “D” Street, on Friday, June 9, 2006 at 12:00 noon. Private interment will be at Montecito Memorial Park. Evelyn Caldwell touched and influenced the lives of many. Those fortunate enough to have known and loved her will miss her dearly.
