ERNEST LEONARD GLASS's Obituary
Ernest Leonard Glass, 78, born on August 17th, 1930, went to be with his Lord on September 28, 2008. Known as ‘Ernie’ to his fire fighter family and ‘Len’ to others, he was born and raised in Redlands, California. He enlisted in the Army in 1948 where he served in Virginia, Panama Canal and Pennsylvania for a total of 3 years. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Len joined the SB City Fire Dept. in December of 1952 where he served for 31 years, retiring as a Battalion Chief on December 31, 1983. After retiring, he served on the board of SB City Fire Commission. Len was a lifelong member of 1st Assembly of God Church, now called North Hills, where he served as a Deacon.
Upon retiring, Len and Barbara enjoyed their motor home, traveling to every state in the US except Alaska, and traveling throughout the United Kingdom.
Ernest Leonard is survived by the love of his life, Barbara, wife of 57 years; his 4 children, Son Steve, his wife Kaye; Son David; Daughters Gail and Lauren; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Giving blood was an important life project for Len. Over the course of his adult life, he donated a total of 23 ½ gallons. Therefore, in lieu of flowers a monetary donation or giving blood in his name to the SB County Blood Bank would be greatly appreciated. Donations would also be gladly accepted to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or the North Hills Building Fund. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel; followed by a military honor’s ceremony at Riverside National Cemetery at 1:15 p.m.
