Elida Marie Bond's Obituary
Elida Marie Bond, 100, of Highland California went to be with her Lord on Thursday, February 28, 2008. Elida was born June 24, 1907, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, to Swedish parents, Per Gustav and Anna Christina Sundin, who, among other things, homesteaded 160 acres near Inwood, Manitoba, Canada. Relating farm adventures, sprinkled with pithy Swedish sayings, entertained her children and grandchildren. As a young woman Elida worked in the pastry department at Eaton’s Department Store and later in a candy shop in Winnipeg. She married Charles Bond in 1934, in Winnipeg. In 1941, they moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario and in 1942, moved to Toronto. In 1951, they arrived in San Bernardino, California, where they opened Bond Auto Parts in 1956, and operated it as a family business until Charles’ death in 1979. Her friends and family were treated to a never-ending stream of love, humor and an unusual gift of optimism. Elida taught Sunday school for young children much of her adult life until she was 85, motivated by her commitment and personal relationship with Jesus. For many years Elida extensively served her Lord at Grace Brethren and Faith Bible churches in San Bernardino. She belonged to the Sons of Norway Lodge and TOPS Club, spreading good will and humor to all those who knew her. Elida was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Charles Bond, and her siblings, Oscar Sundin, Lottie Adams, Anna Gibson, Gust Sundin and Charles Sundin. She is survived by her two children, Carole Marvin and her husband Louis of Highland, California and Gordon Bond and his wife Dreama of Springfield, Missouri. Her faith and upbeat attitude will be forever remembered by her six adult grandchildren, Lisa Bond-Maupin, Lori Bond-Widner, Kerry Thomason, David Marvin, Donnie Marvin, Cyndi Marvin and twelve great grandchildren. Most recently Elida was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Highland, California, where a memorial service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. A private family graveside service will be held later that day at Mountain View Cemetery, under the care of Bobbitt Memorial Chapel.
