EDITH IRENE YNACAY's Obituary
Edith Irene Ynacay, 74, a resident of San Bernardino, passed away Saturday, April 11, in Redlands. A native of Mason City, Iowa, she was a graduate of Michigan State University with a teaching degree. She served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and met her husband, Sgt. Major Robert Ynacay (USMC, Ret) in Hawaii. Her passion and pride was teaching the Spanish and Portuguese languages. She taught in secondary schools, adult education programs and tutored after her retirement. She and Robert traveled extensively to China, Europe, Mexico and South America. Edith was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, the Women’s Marine Association and the California Teachers Association. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Robert; a daughter, Robin Ynacay-Nye (Ron); two sons, Robert Jr. Ynacay (Ruth) and Richard Ynacay (Margaret); two sisters, Mary Byers and Lavina Payton; three brothers, Merlin Graham, Tom Graham and John Graham; and 9 grandchildren. A viewing will be held Thursday, April 16, 2009, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and a funeral service will be held Friday, April 17, at 2:00 p.m., both at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Avenue. Interment will be held at a later time at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
