Dr. Jerome "Jerry" Thomas Taurek's Obituary
After a heroic fight with cancer, Dr. Jerome Thomas Taurek (“Jerry”) passed away peacefully on September 14, 2009. He was 76.
Jerry was born in St. Paul Minnesota. He moved to California with his family when he was 13 years of age. After graduating from Bell High School, in Bell California, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served honorably for four years. Thereafter, he obtained both his undergraduate degree and his medical doctorate degree from the University of California at Los Angeles. He was certified by the American Board of Family Practice, and he started the Family Practice Medical Group in San Bernardino. Jerry had an abiding passion for the political process fueled by his belief that, to a large extent how medicine is and will be practiced is profoundly affected by elected officials at the local, state and national levels. The commissions and committees he served at each of those levels are far too extensive to list here. His belief in his profession and high regard for his medical colleagues spurred him to devote a major part of his life in service to organized medicine.
Jerry was a consummate outdoorsman. He traveled the globe in pursuit of both game and fish throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America, and Africa. He was also a true horseman, continuing to ride his beloved horse Laddie Buck up until the last few weeks of his life. Jerry was a devoted father, grandfather, husband, and friend. He is survived by his wife Mary, his son Michael and Michael’s wife Trishna, his daughter Deborah Taurek Eichenberg and her husband Brian, his sister Mary Taurek Heitman, and his grandchildren Christopher, Ryan, Jonathan, Aiden, and Brianna.
