Dorothy Marie Hoover's Obituary
Dorothy Marie Hoover (93) Our beloved mother, grandmother, GG and friend, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2018, in her home in Highland. Dorothy was born on November 17, 1924 in Danville, Kentucky to James and Nellie May Upton. She had been a resident of Highland for more than 55 years. She retired in 1992 after spending 25 years as an Instructional Aide with the San Bernardino City Unified School District.
Friends and family will always remember Dorothy’s strong and gentle spirit, and her unwavering commitment to God and to her family. She was a dedicated Southern Baptist and loved spending her time at church. She also loved caring for animals, cooking, and had a green thumb in gardening that several of her children inherited.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton B. Hoover; oldest son, Robert Hoover of Highland; brothers, Emmett, Thurman and Gilbert Upton of Kentucky.
She is survived by her son, Dennis (Denise) Hoover, son Douglas (who is preceded in death by his wife, Kathy); son, Charles (Dina) Hoover; daughter, Katherine (Eric) Dillon; and daughter-in-law, Linda (who is preceded in death by Robert Hoover), all residing in Highland and son, Stephen Hoover who resides in Redlands; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services for Dorothy will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church in Highland on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception immediately following at the Church. The Committal Service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 2:01 p.m.
