Dorothy Harriet Foxwell's Obituary
Dorothy H. Foxwell “In Celebration of her Life” Dorothy Harriet (Serles) Foxwell passed away on July 21, 2009 in Redlands, CA, aged 92. Dorothy was born in Detroit, MI, the first of five children. A year later she moved to and grew up in Wisconsin.
She was a devoted wife to her high school sweetheart, Glen M. Foxwell for 57 years until his passing in 1998. They lovingly raised six children; three born in Wisconsin and three born in California. Col. Mark B. Foxwell (USAF-Ret) in Sparks NV; Margaret O’Donnell in Redlands, CA., Mariclare McCoy in Glendora, CA. Gerry Foxwell, Kevin Foxwell and Dorothy Ann Foxwell all in Farmington, NM. Besides their children Dorothy leaves three daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law; 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, and her youngest siblings; Bertha Altenbach and Richard Serles.
Glen and Dorothy moved to Whittier, CA, where they worked tirelessly as volunteers in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was honored as “Woman of the Year”. They participated in mass everyday for most of their lives. Dorothy was a member of the Scripture Study at St. Adelaide Church in Highland. She was also enrolled in the “Third Order Lay Franciscans” which is a vocation to the St. Francis prayer life.
Dorothy was a master seamstress, a gifted artist, very well read, and loved to play cards and ride horses. She personified the faith she modeled for her family to emulate. Dorothy was appreciated/recognized for her glowing smile.
Visitation will be Sunday July 26, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Ave. San Bernardino, CA 92404. Celebration of Mass on Monday, July 27, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Adelaide Church, 27457 Baseline, Highland, CA 92346. The burial will be Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 1:45 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery staging area #4, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, CA 92518.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to a Catholic Mission in her name will be appreciated.
