Doris Bedel Schiavone's Obituary
Doris Bedell Schiavone passed October 18, 2025, at the age of 94. A beloved wife, mother, aunt and friend, Doris was born in Albany, NY, to Gurney and Ethel Bedell on February 16, 1931. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 72 years, Donald Salvo Schiavone and by her sister Grace Sutherland. Doris is survived by her son Michael Schiavone, her brother Robert Bedell, cousins Shirley Farley and William Warren, as well as several dearly loved nieces and nephews.
Doris grew up in Kinderhook, NY, spending summers at Kinderhook Lake at her family cottage. She attended Martin Van Buren School for twelve years, graduating in 1948. She attended and graduated from Hudson River Hospital as a Registered Nurse.
Doris met the love of her life, Donald Schiavone, also an RN. After their marriage in 1951, Donald and Doris moved to Rhinebeck, NY, where their only son, Michael, was born in 1952. In 1957, Doris and family moved to Highland, CA, when orange groves still surrounded the area. There they established a welcoming home for many visiting relatives and friends.
While living in Highland Doris pursued a long and distinguished career as an RN at San Bernardino Community Hospital, while husband Donald worked at Patton State Hospital. Doris was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of San Bernardino. Doris and Donald especially enjoyed attending their weekly Sunday breakfasts at the American Legion. Following the death of Donald at age 95, Doris moved into a senior living facility in San Bernardino, CA.
Doris was laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Mt. View Cemetery on November 10, 1925. Doris' family, friends, and all who knew her remember her as kind, supportive, and giving. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. Her family takes comfort in knowing that Doris’ spirit and generosity will live on through the many lives she touched.
