David Langdon Hunter's Obituary
David Langdon Hunter, 86, passed quietly in the night at St. Bernadine’s Medical Center, attended by his son and daughter and their spouses. He had suffered a debilitating stroke on Monday, Feb.8, after less than a week of playing golf with friends and saying that he had never felt better. David retired from a roughly 50 year career in dentistry, finally calling it quits when reimbursement issues drove many professionals out of the field. David (‘ol Dave) was an active member of the community, having served as president of the local dental society, the Lions Club, and numerous other civic organizations. He was a founding member of the Arrowhead County Club, where he played his ‘last’ 19th hole on Feb. 3, 2010.
David was born into a family of six in Trenton, New Jersey, and, while their family was of limited means, they managed to travel to Riverside, California where he met and married, Phyllis, his wife of 65 years, who passed on just one month earlier this year. David joined the Navy after completing dental school in San Francisco and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. During his marriage to Phyllis, they enjoyed many common interests including golf, tennis, water-skiing, and snow skiing. In addition, they were active in the Presbyterian Church on “D” street. They also had many pleasurable vacations with friends, traveling and picture taking. His hobbies also included an avid interest in skeet, trap, and hunting, but he was perhaps best known for his Martini and Bloody Mary expertise. As time passed, Dave and Phyllis spent many evenings with friends and family, entertaining at their home. They loved to sing Christmas songs together during the holidays. David is survived by his two sisters, Joan Recny of Hemet, and Mary Lou Moody, of Benecia, his son Bob and his wife Jemma, grandchildren Jennifer (JJ) and Alexandra (Alie), and his daughter Barbara and her husband Kirk, grandchildren Kelly and Bryan, Kelly’s husband Mark, and great grandchild, Hunter Hughes.
