Christine Komarek's Obituary
Christine Komarek, age 92, passed away August 8, 2011 in Scottsdale, AZ. She was born in Sutton, NE on October 19, 1918, the daughter of Martin and Martha Kalberg and the youngest of 8 brothers and sisters each of whom, in addition to her beloved husband of 60 years, Virgil B. Komarek, have preceded her in death. She is survived by her 3 children, Martin W. Komarek of Middleton, CA, Mary M. Kavanagh of Scottsdale, AZ and Jean E. Wiltz of Stockton, CA, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Christine graduated from York High School, York, NE in 1936. She worked as a long distance telephone operator from 1936 until 1939, when she and Virgil were married in Clay Center, NE. During WW II she worked at the U. S. Naval Depot in Lincoln, NE as an administrative aide to the Depot Commander. After the war, she and Virgil made their home in California where they raised their 3 children. Christine was very active in the Central Methodist Church, Stockton, CA where she was a member of the church choir, a Sunday school teacher and the church’s wedding coordinator. In 1969, she and Virgil moved to San Bernardino, CA, and became very active in San Bernardino Elks Lodge No. 178 where she served as Emblem Club President from 1983 to 1984. She was also an avid bowler with the Young at Hearts Bowling Club.
Christine spent her life volunteering for many service groups. She was a Cub Scout Leader, PTA President and Bowling Group Treasurer among many. Her children always called her ”volunteer lady of the world”. Christine was very active in the political arena supporting the Republican Party in a variety of increasingly-responsible volunteer capacities.
Services will be held at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Ave., San Bernardino, CA, Friday, August 19, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Graveside internment to follow at Montecito Memorial Park, Colton, CA. We love you and will miss you dearly, Mom.
