Mrs Christina Zaharopoulos' Obituary
Christina Zaharopoulos died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her children, on January 11, 2014 at the age of 98. She was born in the village of Doriza, Greece, and lived through the Italian and German occupations of Greece during World War II, and the Greek Civil War that immediately followed. She was allowed to emigrate to the USA under the Displaced Person’s Act with her husband and 4 children in 1951. After arriving in America, she worked as a housekeeper, dressmaker, and specialty seamstress for various interior designers.
Across years of hard work, in partnership with her husband Nick, who predeceased her in 1999, Christina helped guide her family to its fulfillment of the American dream and became a beloved treasure to her family and their friends.
Christina is survived by her four children: Pat, Konnie, Gus and his wife Erin, and George and his wife Cindy. Eight grandchildren: Alexander and Cassandra Hughes, Melanie Davenport, Nick Zaharopoulos, Tim and Kerin Port, Eric and Joshua Myers. Eleven great-grandchildren: Ella Hughes, John and Kateryna Davenport, Caitlynn, Lauren, Brooke and Margaret Port, Jacob, Zoe, Noah and Evan Myers.
The family would like to express their thanks to Chapman Hospice and their staff for their invaluable assistance during a difficult time.
Family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in hr name to the church.
