Mr Charles A. Pettersen's Obituary
Charles “Chuck” Pettersen, 70, dedicated husband, loving father, and devoted grandfather died on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 in Hemet, CA.
Coach P, as he was best known, began his coaching career as a defensive coordinator at Pacific High School after serving in the Vietnam War in the United States Army as an artillery officer.
As the first head football coach at Cajon High School, Coach P took led the Cowboys to the only CIF Southern Section football title the school has seen in its 44 year history. He accomplished this in 1987.
In 1991, Pettersen moved to Pacific when it reopened, to assume the head coaching position. In 1996, he once again led the team to a CIF Southern Section Title game, the only time in school history.
In addition to his dedication to coaching, Chuck was an avid fisherman and terrible golfer. His favorite lakes to fish were Shasta, Convict, and Diamond Valley, taking annual trips with his close friends to Topaz Lake. Chuck was fond of playing golf
each Wednesday, in addition to taking special trips to play at Pebble Beach and Torrey Pines with nephew Bill Pettersen.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Sandy, who was his biggest fan and supporter. Present at all of his games, “Mrs. P” provided unyielding support for the teams he was leading. She also helped by feeding the students and coaching staff, never leaving his side during his 35 year coaching career.
He is also survived by his daughter, Amy, and grandchildren, Jacob and Zackary. “Papa” lived for entertaining and spoiling his grandchildren, who provided him with nothing but joy and happiness.
Coach P will be sorely missed by all, but memories of a great man will live on.
He will be laid to rest privately.
