CHARLES R. JOHNSON's Obituary
Lt. Col. Charles R. Johnson, (USAF, Retired) 84 years old, died September 25, 2006 at his home. He served in North Africa and Italy during World War II as a B-24 Pilot in the 15th A.F. He served with the 51st Fighter Wing during the Korean War. He served in the Vietnam War in C-130’s with the Tactical Air Command. LTC Johnson also served in Japan and on Kwajalein during the atomic tests in 1948. He saw service in England, and numerous stateside bases as an Operations Officer with B-47 and B-52 Squadrons. He retired in 1972 with 30 years service. LTC Johnson holds the Distinguished Flying Cross with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Medal with eleven Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Distinguished Unit Citation with Cluster and the Presidential Unit Citation for action and support of Marine units in Vietnam. LTC Johnson was married to Betty L. Johnson for 62 years. She preceded him in death on August 7, 2003. Surviving are his spouse Carole Johnson; two sons, CW5 Robert Scott Johnson, William Kelly; four daughters, Michaelene Lyle, Bonnie Woodworth, Patricia Cushard and Elizabeth Johnson. LTC Johnson is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 27627 Rim of the World Dr., Lake Arrowhead, CA. Private burial with full Military Honors was at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California. In lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Mountains Community Hospital.
