BILL NEWMAN's Obituary
Bill Newman, 93, a resident of Highland, died April 29, 2008. He is survived by his sister Frances Newman, 4 children, Cathy Denton (Ken), Nancy Tenove (Mike), Suzie Earp (Steve), Forrest Newman, and 10 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Mary in 1998, and 2 sisters.
Bill was born and raised in Alabama. He attended trade school and became a linotype operator. . He served in the Navy for 4 years during WWII, serving most of his time in Hawaii on the Shore Patrol. Bill and Mary met each other at an USO dance, and married after the war. They arrived in California in 1947. He went to work for Inland Printing and Engraving where he operated a linotype machine for more than 30 years. During his retirement he was a handyman, and gardener in the San Bernardino and Redlands areas.
Bill was famous for his sense of humor and charm. Those two attributes stayed with him throughout his life. He was an outstanding gardener and he had a knack of being able to fix almost anything. He was proud that he was able to live independently for many years after the death of his wife despite being blind due to macular degeneration. He was active in the First Presbyterian Church San Bernardino, serving on Session many years, and participating in Mariners.
Memorial services will be held in San Bernardino on Sat, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 1900 N “D” St. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bill’s name to the First Presbyterian Church, San Bernardino 92405
