Betty L. Sutcliffe's Obituary
Betty L. Sutcliffe, age 87, of San Bernardino, California, peacefully passed away on May 7, 2025.
A lifelong resident of San Bernardino, Betty was born on October 18, 1937. She graduated from St. Bernardine High School in 1955 and went on to serve as a dedicated employee for Attorney William Robert “Bob” Holcomb and later as a legal assistant to Attorney Philip B. Wagner. Betty was a devoted wife to William J. Sutcliffe, her beloved husband of 68 years. Together, they built a strong and faith-filled family rooted in love.
She is survived by her husband William, and their four children: Joseph Sutcliffe, Judy Jordan (Brian), John Sutcliffe, and Jennifer Hensley (Danny). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Kyle Jordan and Angela and Austin Hensley.
Betty lived her faith through action, volunteering regularly at her church and finding joy and fellowship as an avid bridge player. Her unwavering devotion to God and her family was evident in every aspect of her life. She had a deep passion for music and was a talented pianist, which enabled her to play both the piano and organ at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church during her teenage years. Betty had many talents, including being a skilled seamstress and an accomplished cake decorator. She also loved to dance which is what caught William’s attention and it was history from then on.
A lifelong animal lover, Betty especially adored cats. In addition to the cats she cared for over the years, she delighted in an assortment of cat collectibles and attire. Betty also had a deep appreciation for the fine arts. She held season tickets to the Civic Light Opera for over forty years and found great joy in attending performances and supporting the performing arts.
Betty had a profound love for San Bernardino and the surrounding mountains. She cherished the natural beauty of the area and was often overheard fondly referring to the iconic Arrowhead landmark as “her own.”
