BETTY RUTH KIRKLEY's Obituary
Betty Ruth Kirkley, 83, a long time resident of Highland passed away in route to St. Bernardine Hospital due to complications of COPD and Alzheimer’s. Born in Kingman, Kansas to Ruth and Roscoe Messenger, she was one of six children. She graduated from Kingman High School and was involved in the Presbyterian Church, Girl Scouts and many school clubs. In 1956, Betty moved to Highland, CA. where she worked at Bekins Van and Storage and would meet Baxter Kirkley and spend the next 52 years with him.
Betty retired from the San Bernardino City School District, where she had worked for 10 years after being a long time volunteer. She was a member of the Degree of Pocahontas and Highland Woman’s Club. She enjoyed reading, puzzles and her family.
She is survived by her loving husband Baxter (Kirk) Kirkley and their children: Linda Gleason (Gene), Timothy Kirkley (Glenda), James Kirkley, Lesley Kirkley and Vickie Greswit (John); her two stepsons: Dan Kirkley (Brenda) and Mike Kirkley (Marta); her grandchildren: Amy Cortez (Brian), Heather Cox (Patrick), Robyn Miller (Matt), Amanda Kirkley, Stephen Kirkley, Leanne Perrault and Alisha, Chris, Ian and Caitlin Kirkley, her great-grandchildren: Austin, Sky, Paige, Madison, Brooklyn and Ellis; her brothers, Roscoe Messenger, David Messenger (Doris) and Richard Messenger (Betty).
Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Ave., San Bernardino.
