Barbara Claire Almy's Obituary
Barbara C. Almy, 91, née Perkins, died at her home in San Bernardino on Sunday. A native Californian, she lived in San Bernardino much of her life. Daughter of Clement D. and Marjorie P. Perkins, she attended San Bernardino High School and graduated from Pomona College, where she studied under noted professor of voice, Ralph Lyman. As a trained contralto soloist she was known for her work in oratorio, particularly Messiah and Elijah. During the 40s she aided the war effort by working at Norton Air Force Base, and later as the wife of attorney Fred H. Almy, devoted herself to organizations like Lawyers' Wives and the Women's Association of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the First Congregational Church for over fifty years. Survivors include her son, Mark C. of Palm Springs, and two daughters, Susan P. of San Bernardino and Kathleen S. of Rancho Cucamonga. Services will be held at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel on Friday, February 16, 2018 at
10:00 a.m. The family suggests donations be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ in San Bernardino, 3041 N Sierra Way, San Bernardino, CA 92405.
