Professor Emeritus of Mathematics, B. She grew up in a family of educators, with women in the family graduating from college in the 1890’s onward. By 1951 the family had arrived in San Bernardino.
Prof. Whisler taught math at the University of California at Riverside, Cal State San Bernardino University, and for many, many years San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC). For many years she was SBVC Faculty Association President. She wrote the college level textbook Mathematics for Health Professionals. She wrote and got passed critical and timely California college legislation. She was the first female faculty at SBVC in the physical sciences division and worked hard to get other women and ethnically diverse faculty and staff hired at SBVC.
Raised by devout Methodists, Prof. Whisler was an active member of Del Rosa United Methodist Church, church treasurer for some 17 years, Superintendent of Sunday School many years when church membership was greater than 1000 with more than 300 children K-6 and some 50 Sunday School teachers. God’s love and kindness blessed her and all. She was happy, smiled and thanked God for life every day.
Prof. Whisler loved science and was a great scientist, loved nature – plants and creatures, and enjoyed traveling all her life.
