AIDA - LUNT's Obituary
MRS. AIDA LUNT (SAMAYOA HIDALGO) went to be with our Lord in His eternal plan of salvation on Nov. 16, 2008, at Redlands Community Hospital, after a long but valiant battle with pulmonary fibrosis, surrounded by her loving husband and three children. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Gerald; children, Gary (Margaret & son, Max), John and children, Emily, Audrey and Adam (twins) (and mother Bridget Child), and numerous loving relatives and friends.(Predeceased by her parents, and four older brothers, Julian, Angel, Luis and Alberto, also her best friend).Aida or "Wita" as she was know by her grandchildren, was born on Sept. 10, 1935, in Coatepeque, Guatemala, CA, spent early years on a beautiful ranch near the City; then the family moved to Huehuetenango in North Guatemala; attended middle school "Colegio La Patria" at age 15 in Quezaltenango, then completed her education at age 21 on Nov. 22, 1954 at the University "Mercantil Antigueno" of Antigua, Guatemala with degree "Perita Contador" (Certified Public Accountant), this degree being signed and conferred upon her by Guatemalan President, Carlos Castillo Armas, along with the Director and the Minister of Public Education. After an apprentice ship she worked as an accountant with Mercedes Benz Corp. in Guatemala City. Always looking to broadening her horizons, she immigrated with her "adopted" family, the Fusons of Arizona, to the U.S. or A. in Sept., 1956, residing in Winkleman, AZ, for a short time, then moved to Tucson, AZ, continuing her studies while working full-time and honing her English skills; she studied and learned to speak fluent French, along with her native language, Castilian Spanish. In Tucson she met her future husband, Gerald, in early 1957, who was instantly smitten by her many charms and in tellect. After his graduation, Civil Engineering, Univ of Ariz., 1958, the young couple married on 7/18/58, in the Mesa, AZ L.D.S. Temple and moved to San Bernardino, CA, Gerald employed by CA Dept. of Trans., where they raised their family of 3 children and now have 4 grandchildren (possibly one or two more on the way). During most of her life, Aida devoted her energies and loving personality toward raising her family and helping others. She was active in wives of Engineers, L.D.S. Relief Society, loved gardening, growing all varieties of roses - she truly had a "green thumb" from early childhood through adulthood; and she thoroughly enjoyed her cats & parrots. She became an expert seamstress and cook, using her talents while serving in many capacities in the L.D.S. Church, 3rd Ward, helping in teaching the young women to learn life skills while serving the Lord and keeping His commandments. She tutored at Curtis Middle School, volunteered in the Sister City Program, was a Den Mother, Room Mother, and did many other voluntary jobs. She dedicated her life, energies, and loving personality to serving others and always thought of them first. She has hundreds of friends. Her four grandchildren meant the world to her. She led a long line of relatives and friends who immigrated from Guatemala, who all led successful and productive lives in the U.S. She was a very proud U.S. citizen and loved our country. Aida was the #1 Laker fan in the world since 1971, from West to Kobe. She continued using her accounting skills to continue running the family's boarding house in Huehuetenango for many years and in managing rental homes owned by her and Gerald in San Bernardino. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
