August 11, 1950 - April 14, 2020
Linda Mohney Tribute It is with great sadness to announce that on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, Linda Ann Mohney, a 69-year life-long resident of San Bernardino, loving wife, mother and sister, passed away peacefully at her home after a brief battle with lung cancer. Linda was born August 11,1950 in San Bernardino, CA to Edward and Fay Young. She was a native to San Bernardino, and the oldest of two sisters (Bonita DeGrave of Murrieta, CA and Elisa Young of Newport Beach, CA) and a brother (Jeffrey Young 1954-1977). Linda graduated from Pacific High School in 1968. After high school, she attended Valley College in San Bernardino and one semester at Brigham Young University. She spent her career in the title business as an officer and also worked in a medical billing office. On October 2, 1971, she married Gerald “Jerry” Mohney, a firefighter for San Bernardino City Fire Department. Together, they raised a daughter, Stephanie Mohney. Her husband and daughter made her heart smile, and she loved to laugh and reflect on the memories they created together. Linda was never the same after losing her husband in 2012 to job-related cancer, but in true Linda fashion she kept on living- planning many trips to Europe (via ship of course- she hated planes!). She loved Ireland, and even researched moving there. If you knew Linda, you knew she was a force to be reckoned with. There was not another person like her, and there never will be. She would want to be remembered as a Maker. A maker of memories, she was a maker of stories, she was a maker of crafts and pottery and decorations and costumes. You name it, she probably made it! She was passionate in whatever she was focused on- be it making something creative, music, poetry, learning history, making jewelry, “doing” Christmas, and family or friends. She was a self-taught academic and prided herself on her knowledge of historical facts. Linda even took the grand task of retracing her family’s lineage as a “hobby”. What to many would have been a cumbersome activity looking through journals, logs, and many databases, Linda looked at the experience as an adventure and was excited to share her findings. In true Linda fashion, simply to know the history wasn’t enough. She took a cross-country train trip to Galesburg, Illinois with her Aunt Wilma to see where her family had come from. Eventually, she traveled to Arizona to meet her new family members she had discovered in her research. There isn’t enough space or time to cover all the things that made Linda so unique; or all of the care and attention to detail that was Linda. Linda was like the sun, her gravitational pull so strong that everyone had no choice but to be pulled into her orbit (whether you liked it or not!). Linda was preceded in death by her father, Edward, her mother, Fay, her brother, Jeff, and her husband of 41 years, Jerry Mohney. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Mohney, her aunt, Wilma Silva, her sister and brother-in-law, Bonita and Steve DeGrave, her baby sister, Elisa Young, her niece, Sara Bartel and her husband, Tom, her nephew, Sean DeGrave and his wife, Liselle, her three great nieces, Ava (12), Ainsley (2), and Quinn (9 months), and her great nephew, Carson (10). Arrangements are being handled by Bobbitt Memorial Chapel in San Bernardino, CA. Further information will be available on their website at: www.bobbittchapel.com. The memorial service for Linda is delayed due to the Covid-19 concerns and will be announced at a later date (TBD in August near, what would have been her, 70th birthday.) Memorial donations may be made to The Linda Mohney Living Trust 2019: 25060 Hancock Ave. #103-199 Murrieta, CA 92562. Due to recent limitations of funeral services, a small private graveside service will be held at Mt. View Cemetery for immediate family only. We will have a recording of the service to share with family and friends that were unable to attend due to the pandemic risks.
