June 29, 1920 - July 2, 2017
Laura June Cornelius, long-time San Bernardino resident, passed away on July 2, 2017. She had been visiting her daughter in Colorado, and they had celebrated her 97th birthday, just days before. Born in Austin, Minnesota, she survived a tough childhood, as the oldest of four in the middle of the Great Depression. At 17 she married Edward Boyens of Chicago, where they lived for several years with their two children. They then moved to California settling in San Bernardino where she had her third child. She worked as a Data Analyst for many years at Norton Air Force Base. She was very active in Masonic organizations. She was guardian of Job’s Daughters Bethel #33 then became Deputy Grand Guardian responsible for several Bethels. Working with the youth was one of her great joys. Her husband Ed passed away after 42 years of marriage. Several years later, she married Ken Cornelius, and had a wonderful 20+ more years of marriage with him. She loved being with family & friends, loved to travel, and loved animals, her last being long time companion Annie, her cat. Laura sold Avon until she was 95, which enabled her to remain active, meet many people, and keep her mind sharp by doing all the paperwork. She loved life and was active up until her last couple of days (get her behind a walker, and you couldn’t keep up with her). Laura is preceded in death by husbands Ed and Ken, daughter Barbara, son Richard, all of her siblings, and her close companion John. Laura is survived by daughter Julie (husband Bill), daughter-in-law Sharon (children Philip & Sherri & families), Stepdaughter Linda Sue (sons Scott & Jeff & families), and many dear friends. She requested no services be held. If you want to make a donation in her name, her choice would be the Humane Society. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband Ken at Riverside National Cemetery.
