FRANK ALVAREZ, JR. May 09, 1935-November 27,2017 He was carried to his Heavenly home in the arms of Jesus. He leaves cherished memories with his wife Lori Alvarez of Highland; daughter, Jennifer McPhate and Chris of San Bernardino; son, Frank A. Alvarez and Dena of Highland; daughter, Katherine Moss of Yucaipa; daughter, Margaret Broderius and Bill of Arizona; Grandsons Frank W. & Robert A. Alvarez of Highland, Connor & Duncan McPhate of San Bernardino; Kevin Murray and Paula of South Carolina; Kris Murray and Kristi of Arizona., Adopted son Kevin Ford of Cherry Valley, Great-Grandchildren: Patton Murray of S.C.; Maranda & Jimmy Nichols of Fontana; Shane Murray of Fontana, and adopted Granddaughter Yadira Madrid of Ont., Katelyn, Robert Jr. & Josh Cole of Arizona. Graduated S.B.High School in 1953. San Bernardino Valley College for his A.A. In Criminal Science. Joined the S.B. Sheriff's Reserves 1957. Joined U.S. Army Military Police & served in Germany, Honorable discharged Rank of Sergeant, Joined U.S. Army Reserves '60-'64. Franks accomplishments as Law Enforcement Officer 1961 -1994 Nov. 1961 was hired by S.B. Police Dept. 1961- 1965 was a P-1 Patrolman, in the Patrol Division. 1966-1971 assigned as Senior Identification Inspector, in Identification Bureau (now known as Crime Scene Inspector C.S.I.) 1969 promoted to P-2 Detective. 1971-1972 assigned to Auto Theft Division, during this time worked closely with Kingman Arizona Sheriff's Dept., assisted in the apprehension of numerous multi-State Auto Theft Rings, received recognition from this agency. 1971, was promoted to Sergeant in Patrol Division, for the first six months worked C.B.S.(Crime Specific Burglary detail) a Federal funded project aimed at reducing burglaries. 1978-1980 was assigned as Sergeant in the Identification Bureau and was responsible for the upgrading of the Identification Bureau for the transfer to the new Police Station on 4th Street. 1980-1984 assigned to Field Supervisor and Station Watch Commander. During this period, he initiated a Canine program. A total of 5 canines were purchased, through private donations and fundraisers. He became the Canine Coordinator and established the format governing the canines and handlers. 1984 certified to (P-4) Lieutenant, set up the Community Service Center offices at Foothill and Meridan and Lytle Creek Community Center. 1986 assigned as Commander of the Traffic Division, Multiple Enforcement Team (M.E.T.) working as part of (S.W.A.T.) detail, established the departments first active Hostage Negotiations Team, Labor Relations Unit. 1988 was requested to provide security for President Ronald Regan's visit to San Bernardino. For this he received recognition from the U.S. Secret Service, and President Regan gifted him with an autographed picture and an autographed gold tie clip. He Retired 1995, April 1st as Lieutenant. His son Frank A. and grandson, Robert A., have followed in his footsteps into Law Enforcement and they are the only three generations in San Bernardo Police Department history. On Dec. 10, 2017 the visitation will be at Bobbitt”s Memorial Chapel from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. The Rosary will be at the Chapel at 7:00pm. Funeral Services will be Dec. 11, 2017 at 10:00am at St. Adelaide Catholic Church in Highland, followed at 12:30pm for Graveside Services at Riverside National Cemetery. Affiliations: 1980-1986 Inland Valley Canine Association; 1980-1984 IVCA Board San Bernardino K-9 Association President; 1983 Elks BPOE 836 member; 1984- 1987 San Bernardino K-9 Association Vice-President; 1985-1989 Villa-Hermosa Mexicali Sister City Committee member; 1987-1989 Bethlehem House, Board of Directors; 1987-1989 San Bernardino Police Officers Association President; 1987- Inland Chapter of P.O., R.A.C. Member; 1989-1990 Elks BPOE 836 Officer. Hobbies: Golf, wife, Golf, grandsons, Golf family; and bar-b-que a lot of his famous ribs for family and friends.
