Phyllis Fae Hunter

Phyllis Fae Hunter, 85, passed peacefully at her home during the morning hour of the New Year. She had an on-and-off battle with ovarian cancer for many years, but, for the most-part, bore the fight with a smile and her “Wicky, Wacky” ways. Phyllis was a dedicated homemaker and wife, known for her excellent cooking and superb pies with to-die-for crusts. She spent many years with the San Bernardino Assistance league and other charitable organizations, including a “Thrift Shop” near Mill and ‘E’ streets in San Bernardino. Phyllis was born and raised an only child, in Riverside, Ca. by her mother Flora Bruna (Rubidoux) Kaufman, a native, whose family helped to found the city, and her father Harry William Kaufman, who was in the citrus growing business. She attended Riverside Poly High School where she met and married her husband of 65 years, David Langdon Hunter, DDS, after his return from active naval duty in the Philippines during World War II. During her marriage to Dave, they enjoyed many common interests including golf, tennis, water skiing, snow-skiing, and target shooting. In addition, they were active in the Presbyterian Church on “D” street. They also had many pleasurable vacations with their friends, traveling to different parts of the country, and to some world areas until she became unable to journey. Her hobbies also included an avid interest in gardening and socializing. As founding members of the Arrowhead Country Club, they spent many days on the links and courts, in the pool, and in the restaurant. As time passed, Phyllis and Dave spent many days and evenings with friends and family at their home on Parkdale Dr. They sang songs together during “happy hour”, including something about the beach in Waikiki? Phyllis is survived by her loving husband David, a son Bob and his wife Jemma, grandchildren Jennifer (JJ) and Alexandra (Alie), and a daughter Barbara and her husband Kirk, grandchildren Kelly and Bryan, with Kelly expecting a great grandchild, Hunter Hughes, at the end of January. There will be a viewing at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel on Thursday, January 7, beginning at 09:30a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Montecito Memorial Park, 3520 E. Washington St., Colton, Ca., 92324.
